Numerology is the belief in an occult, divine or mystical relationship between a number and one or more coinciding events. It is also the study of the numerical value, via an alphanumeric system, of the letters in words and names or person’s birthdate.

Here are some things to know about numerology:

  • Numerology systems: There are many numerology systems, including Western, Chaldean, Kabbalah, Chinese, and Tamil. The most popular system in the modern world is Western numerology, which was created by the Greek philosopher Pythagoras.
  • Numerology and names: Numerology can be applied to a person’s name, which is a form of onomancy.
  • Numerology and numbers: Most numerology systems focus on the numbers 1–9, with 11 and 22 also being significant. Each number has a different meaning, personality, influence, and impact. For example, the number 1 is associated with leadership, the number 2 with diplomacy, and the number 3 with creativity.
